Pre-Event Exhibition Information
Professional artists can submit three works of art for jurying into the gallery exhibitions and Cash Awards; emerging artists can submit two.
Cash Awards will be selected by esteemed Juror, Doreen St. John. At least one artwork from each registered artist will be included in the exhibition.
In addition to these artworks, artists can submit as many “Purchase Prize” submissions as they are able to complete for consideration of purchase by the Home or Business posting the award. A purchase prize is a cash award and purchase of artwork by a Home or Business who would like their building painted by artists in Sylvania Plein Air. The property owner offers an amount of their choice as a cash prize in exchange for a painting and selects the painting they’d like to keep in exchange for the cash prize. If an artwork is not selected by the property owner for purchase, it may still be selected for inclusion and sale in the gallery exhibitions.
Adult artworks created in the Plein Air Event will be exhibited and available for sale Friday, August 2nd through Saturday, August 10th at The Hudson Gallery & Fuller Art House. Youth artworks will be displayed at The Art Supply Depo.
ADULT ARTWORK GALLERY REQUIREMENTS
All artwork must be framed and wired, no sawtooth hangers. The Red Bird Authentication stamp must be visible on all artworks. Artists working on paper can have paper stamped on the front in a corner and accept that it is part of the artwork. You can have the back stamped and insert clear plexiglass or mylar in the back of the frame or cut a hole in the backer board to see the stamp. Work without a stamp visible will not be accepted.
Artworks are limited to 20” in either direction before framing. Diptychs and triptychs are allowed if the combined length of the art is under 20”. Artists using 1.5” deep canvas or wood panels are not required to frame art, but paintings must be wired. Edges of canvas or wood should be tidy. Please plan your frame in advance of the festival to avoid any last-minute glitches.
Sylvania Plein Air will retain 30% of proceeds for all artworks sold by the galleries during the event. Purchase prizes selected for purchase by the property owner will be paid the stated amount of the purchase prize. Artworks not selected for purchase by the property owner and included in the gallery exhibition are subject to 30% commission being retained by Sylvania Plein Air if sold.
